November 20, 2017 Dear OSTPDX, By now, you already know that the #TrumpTaxScam is (among other things) yet another attempt to destroy the ACA, this time by repealing the individual mandate. We have defeated each of these GOP efforts so far. And record ACA enrollment numbers demonstrate how unpopular the GOP’s attempts are. But did you know that the #TrumpTaxScam also attacks education by eliminating key provisions that benefit students, teachers, and educational institutions? If enacted, it will: • eliminate the deduction for student loan interest • define tuition waivers as “income,”…

November 13, 2017 Dear OSTPDX, Wasn’t last Tuesday night fun?? We phone banked and canvassed for Manka Dhingra for the WA State Senate – and she won, turning the West Coast blue! We wrote postcards and texted for Mike Mullin in VA – and he won, part of the blue wave sweeping over Virginia and elsewhere! Dear OSTPDX, The GOP is moving quickly to try to wrap up its first legislative victory, so-called tax reform – at our expense. The tax bill will; Give huge tax cuts to the wealthy by phasing out the estate tax, repealing the Alternative Minimum Tax, and limiting the tax rate on income earned by hedge funds, private law firms, and the Trump Organization; Slash the corporate tax rate at the expense of the middle-class; Add at least $1.5 trillion to the deficit (aren’t the Republicans supposed to be deficit hawks?),…

Stop the Trump Tax Scam

From Indivisible Oregon In order to pay for so-called “tax reform” benefitting the wealthiest, the GOP budget takes money from Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and other basic services. The Trump tax plan may be self-dealing, benefiting businesses like the Trump Organization over working and poor people. Ask Senators Merkley and Wyden to refuse to vote for any tax bill until Trump releases his tax returns, and to oppose any tax plan that increases the deficit. Sample Script: My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon, [zip code]. Please to…

Fund CHIP and Stabilize the ACA

From Indivisible Oregon CHIP, which provides healthcare to 9 million children, lost its official funding on September 30th. States have been hobbling along on left over funds and borrowed money. Many, like Oregon, will soon start sending out loss of insurances notices -to children-if new funding doesn’t come through. The ACA has been the subject of repeal attempts and sabotage. Senators Murray and Alexander have a bipartisan bill, with a filibuster proof majority, that stabilizes the ACA and decreases the deficit by $3.8 billion over 10 years. But the GOP…
